My favorite thing to do in a ship’s gym (yeah, there’s a gym on board, and a sauna, too!) is pull-ups… because if you time it just right with the rolling motion of the boat, the waves do all the work for you and suddenly you’re G.I. Jane doing a thousand in a row.

Attempting the treadmill, on the other hand, will find you first with your shoulder pressed into the wall to your left, and then thrown into your coworker minding her own business on the stationary bike to your right. Giggles abound.

All this to say: we’re finally underway, and the water is getting colder and rougher by the hour. Sometime tonight we should round the Cape and spit out into the Drake Passage. There’s not too much to do besides wait…
